More than a thousand islands, short hops between harbours and a dense network of marinas make Croatia the easiest place in Europe to start sailing. Dalmatia gives you lively towns like Split and Hvar, while Kvarner and Istria are quieter and greener.
Greece pairs whitewashed island villages with long, open-water passages. The Ionian is sheltered and green — ideal for families — while the Cyclades bring the meltemi wind and some of the most rewarding sailing in the Med.
From the granite coves of northern Sardinia to the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast and the volcanic Aeolian Islands off Sicily, Italy rewards slow cruising with exceptional food in every harbour.
The Balearic Islands offer clear turquoise anchorages within a day's sail of each other — Mallorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Menorca each have a distinct character. Barcelona is a great base for the rugged Costa Brava.
Sail the glamour of the Côte d'Azur between Cannes, the Lérins Islands and Saint-Tropez, or cross to Corsica for wild red cliffs, empty bays and the Scandola nature reserve.
Turkey's Turquoise Coast is the home of the traditional gulet: pine-clad bays, ancient Lycian ruins and long lazy lunches at anchor. Göcek's twelve islands are perfect for a first week aboard.
